Re: Fan????

Yeah, most of the time the problem is the relay under the right hand front light. You could test the fan by just putting 12 V directly on it (watch out for the + and - and for the fan itself). You don't have the mechanical fan on the waterpump pulley?

Re: Fan????

It's VERY common for the fan relay to go bad. Like Frango said, it's located under the right (as viewed when sitting in the driver's seat) front headlight. Getting to it is a PITA. You either have to remove the front bumper cover or cut a hole in the plastic under the headlight.

Re: Fan????

The last two relays I have see failed I also saw the fan was failed, likely the cause of the the failed relay, amperage draw could concievably kill a relay. Using the DRBIII to actuate the fan I have no output from the relay and sending direct power and ground to the fan it blows the breaker in my power probe, indicating excessive amperage draw (a failed/failing fan.

Re: Fan????

My apologies for not catching this sooner... I believe 04 was the ONLY wj year that actually had a fan relay (s?, hi lo?) in the PDC beside the battery. Which good for you just take about a foot of wire (preferably with a fuse in line to prevent any circuit damage). Pull the fan relay out and using the diagram printed on the side of the relay send power down pin 87 by sticking one end of the wire on the battery + terminal, then the other as stated on the pin 87 terminal in the pdc... begin with a tap to be safe, and keep an eye on any fan activity if the fan does nothing you will likely need a fan, if it fires right up grab a relay you can do without (ac compressor or something, not that you can live without that in TX), swap it out then go drive and see that your fans working... if it does take your scortching hot wj to the parts store and pick up a new relay to replace the ac compressor relay.

Re: Fan????

I have a '01 WJ Limited and my relay and located on the passenger side and you get to it via the wheel well, and of course turning the wheels so you can reach back. Easy fix.
