First message from australia--- help

Hi Guys...So I just picked up my first Jeep on Monday night, an Overland 2014 Diesel and after being all excited I decided why not google some questions...low and behold I came across this forum and its great....so after reading some information on the software updates...I assumed that my car which I picked up would have all new updates and the recall done....Tuesday morning I call up and Low and Behold NO...I have to take my car which I picked up 24 hrs before back to Jeep to get the new software updates done and the recall done...have also noticed the shaking and rattlening noise in the sunroof...how silly of them not to have done the updates before giving me the car...they really couldn't provide and explanation, on another note love the car and the drive but don't think fuel economy will be anything like what they say as have gone through a quarter of a tank and only got 200km/125miles...is this normal???

thoughts please

Re: First message from australia--- help

Welcome to the awesome world of dealer logic.
I didn’t leave it to chance, I told them to make sure they updated Uconnect before I pick it up, even though it is an easy self install.
I should have no other updates required for my September build.

Re economy, what is the figure the EVIC showing as your average? Your description suggest 11.50lt per 100km, but that assumes a precise quarter tank of fuel use.
How was it driven in those 200kms? Start stop city suburban driving? The economy will massively improve regardless as engine breaks in. This will take over 1,000-2,000km, some even suggest it doesn’t finish to about 10,000km for the CRD.

Go play in the export section where they shun all Aussies to
Export Grand Cherokee 2011+ - Jeep Garage - Jeep Forum

you will see a lot of them with figures as low as 7/100 for long runs, and 8-9/100 for their standard use.

FYI, you have still posted this in the wrong area. You have a WK2 Grand Cherokee, not a WJ.

Re: First message from australia--- help

A diesels true economy is not tapped until it can warm up, so short start stop driving will never get the best out of it.
Not sure if you were told, or if it is in the owners manual, but give it a good run from time to time to make sure the DPF filter can enter regen mode and not fill up.

Re: First message from australia--- help

Snuke thanks for all your help. Excuse the ignorance but when you say a good run as in thrash it a little? Also maybe you can help with this. When my phone is on car on Bluetooth iPhone 5s and someone sends a text I can't hear the message tone. Is there something that can be done for this. Appreciate your help so far.

Not, don’t trash it, especially not early on in its life. It will just need a good run at higher speeds to build up heat.
Re BT, no idea, maybe it is because when paired all audio queues are routed through the car but it don’t know how to do that one.]
Don’t know, I never pay attention to any text while driving anyway, I prefer to watch the road.

Hi Supereck

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to JG.

With regards to text messaging, you can press the phone button and then say 'Inbox'. That will bring up your messages. Then you can say 'Read Message 1' for example and it will read it out to you as well as displaying it on the screen (but don't look at the screen - eyes forward. )
