Front Outer pinion seal?

Hey guys,

My front outer pinion seal has a small leak starting up and i need to go about replacing it.

My question is exactly which front axle do i have?
When i go to the parts stores (autozone, advanced auto) they both have a Dana 30 and a Dana 35 listed but do not carry the seal for the 30.

So how would i be able to tell which one i have? are the seals for both axles the same? It was my understanding that only the internals of the axles differed.

I have an 02 limited 4.7ho with quadradrive.

Thanks in advance

Re: Front Outer pinion seal?

The front axle for all WJ's should be the Dana 30, the rear is either a 35 or a 44.

Try rockauto.com for the seal.

Re: Front Outer pinion seal?

Ok, there seems to be more then one seal for the front,

Is there any specific brand you reccomend?

Im looking at SKF Part # 15525 and OMIX-ADA Part # 1652104

They both look different to me but both claim to be the front dana 30 outer pinion seal.

Re: Front Outer pinion seal?

I bought an Omix-Ada rear upper control arm and ball joint and have had luck with it. I think either brand would be ok.

Re: Front Outer pinion seal?

Just make sure you have a torque wrench handy when reinstalling the yoke. Tighten the nut to exactly 160 ft.lbs. no more or you'll mess up the crush sleeve in there and have real problems.

Thanks for the tip,
I was origionally going to just mark the nut and threads and count the turn outs but will torque it now.
