Front Passenger door unlocking issues

Anyone have any ideas. The passenger side front door lock isn't unlocking fully. So you can't open from the outside, and from the inside you can open since you "force" unlock when you pull handle. When you hit unlock on the inside you can see the latch move, but not as far as it should. This started monday. And by end of the night it seemed to get better. Haven't touched jeep since monday night, tried it again earlier today and still acting up. When I drove into work before, I tried again and the door was able to open from the outside. I also noticed that the "locking" piece isn't fully closing, as you can still see some of the orange marking indicating that the lock is unlocked.

TIA

Re: Front Passenger door unlocking issues

If you take the door apart you can check if any of the metal actuator rods are broken.

Re: Front Passenger door unlocking issues

okay cool. thanks. Do I need to remove the whole door panel? Or can I get away with just removing the part by the door handle? Or is that just 1 of the screws that hold the whole panel on?

Re: Front Passenger door unlocking issues

Yes you do need to remove the door pannel. THere are 2 philips screws, and one T-25 screw. the philips screws are under a little cap on the top left of the pannel, and on the bottom of the little pull-tray thingie to the right of the handle. The Torx screw is behind the handle itself. You have to hold the handle open to get at it.

After that it's just a crap load of trim fasteners. It helps to use a door pannel removal tool to avoid breaking the fastners.

Re: Front Passenger door unlocking issues

lol. I understand whatcha mean. Haha. I gotta find a torx driver, not sure if I have one.
Also is it possible the problem could just be weather related with the high temps N.E. recently? My dad had same problem on his crown vic, but before I got to look at it (next day) it began working again and has since.

Re: Front Passenger door unlocking issues

I've had the same problem when the weather is hot. Its been around 40 degrees Celsius here and my car is black, same thing happened. I figure some of the plastic is expanding and not allowing the rods to move well... if you find a fix let me know.. I'm taking my door apart once the weather gets better

Re: Front Passenger door unlocking issues

Yesterday temps went into the mid 80s and this issue was experienced again. From the inside I hit unlock/lock a few times and issue was gone.
