Front propeller shaft

Changed my front propeller shaft aft CV joint some weeks ago due to the rubber boot which was broken. Now after installation i was just wondering if the way the shaft is put in, is the right one. How it was (and is) installed, it has the large CV boot at the fwd side, and the small CV boot at the aft side. The shaft almost leaves the front diff without any angle, but at the T-case side there is some angle, causing the small boot to be in an angle that you would expect it to not survive a long time. I saw a picture here at JG once where the large boot was at the aft, making more sense to me also, because the larger boot can make easier a bigger angle without compromising the boot. Those with CV joints on the front propeller shaft can tell me how it is mounted on their Jeeps?

I think your root issue is installing a propeller shaft on a jeep....

Ok now that the obligatory sarcasm is over.... does it fit if you flip the shaft? Generally, the differential is angled toward the transfer case, so the joint won't need to be at an angle. If either of the two CV joints is angled, it'll be the transfer case side joint.

Re: Front propeller shaft

I would help you, but I have a U-joint in the front (front part of driveshaft) and CV joint in the back (part into the TC).

Re: Front propeller shaft

Driving home i was thinking about it, and there is probably also an other reason that the shaft is mounted as is: the side with the long boot is telescopical, to cater for the different distance between T-case and diff depending on the travel of the suspension. Because the diff side has almost no angle with the shaft, this makes it easier for the telescopic part to move in or out.
He Jeepme, if you have an U-joint in the front, then probably the aft one is telescopic, right? Is it factory build like this?
