Fuel Gauge

Hi everyone,
I am new to this site and was hoping to get some help. I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee 4WD with a 4.7L that seems to have some starting problems and now a fuel gauge problem. If we move the tilt on the steering wheel, it may start and die immediately. My wife thinks it's the keys, but I've proved it does it with both sets. Then, the gas gauge started moving sparatically while driving and now does not register anything but empty. Does anyone know of a common problem here?

Re: Fuel Gauge

Do not know of any common problem.
When the engine dies, does it start normally thereafter? Does the SKIS light (small key) come on when it dies? Does the tilt of the steering wheel change anything on the starting issue? There is a receiver antenna ring around the key cylinder which should detect the key, could be that it is loose.
And regarding the fuel gauge, could be a wiring problem, or a problem with the sending unit inside the tank.

Re: Fuel Gauge

Possibly a short or bad ground somewhere causing both problems? I'm with Frango on the sending unit problem for the fuel gauge but both problems may be related to a wiring/connection issue. Good luck I hate diagnosing electrical issues. Keep us updated.
