Re: Groaning

Don't think its wise to add more additive when your not sure it has been added or not. If it was added and you add it again, it would change the composition of the total fluid and could jeopardize the lubrication.
Did you ask the guys how the fluid from the diff looked like? Any metal particles inside, that could give a sign of abnormal wear?

Re: Groaning

Definitely change the diff oil...it's easy to do and for a vehicle that's 10 years old with next to no miles on it, and a questionable service history, you're better off knowing everything is fresh to start. The only things I can think of that would groan in the rear when you steer are:
1. A fat guy in the back set
2. Worn bushings...check the swaybar attaching points and any connection points
3. Rear diff...needs service or is beyond service
4. Shock absorber pivot points
5. Rubber isolaters between springs and mounting surface are shot/dry rotted.

Any shot you could post video of the sound happening?

Re: Groaning

Well, spoke to the mechanic who worked on my car and he quoted word for word the correct procedure for changing the diff oil including the additive.

i went to the local Jeep garage and bought another bottle of the additive, I was surprised how small it was, added it and.........quiet as a mouse!!!!!!!!

I cannot believe something so small can have such a large effect on a vehicle.

The mechanic did offer to bring the GC in and rebuild the Diff for me as it would need it

I want to thank all the contributors to this thread for their time and patience.

Daisy (the Jeep) and me are now very happy!

Re: Groaning

Hey i have the exact same problem, sounds and feels a little like the rear brakes literally "grinding to a stop". It dont happen all the time, mostly when reversing and turning at the same time and sometimes right after reversing as i'm pulling away, kinda feels like i've not let the handbrake off even though i never use it. What do you guys recommend i try first? Oh and does anyone know where i can get hold of the pins/bolts that go into the rear anti-sway bar link? Can't find them anywhere! Thanks all.

Re: Groaning

Hi!

Just so you don't have to hear it again later, you may want to change your designation to WJ instead of WK2. Unless you have an HO engine in your 2011, which would be interesting.

Your issue sounds like it could genuinely be a rear brake issue. Your e-brake uses the rear. You may want to pull the rear discs off and have a look to make sure nothing is broken.

As for your rear sway end links, if you're looking for the bolts, I don't think you need anything fancy...just good high strength bolts that fit. I'm not 100% sure...but I think it's just a nut and bolt on both sides.

Re: Groaning

Lol thanks will do m8, they are two different sizes and are only treaded about half way and look pretty specific as they need to match the bore of the anti-sway bar link, have you used anything different yourself? Cheers

Re: Groaning

I have in my prior jeeps with no issues. AS long as the fit is tight, you should be fine. Most hardware stores will have good shouldered bolts though...where the thread doesn't go all the way down.
