Re: Has anyone converted a 2wd Grand to a 4WD

Any updates on this project?? I have been dying to do the same to my WJ 2x4 ... If i can find a donor that is...however, the pickings are slim (as he said earlier) in the north alabama area.

Re: Has anyone converted a 2wd Grand to a 4WD

OK! Instead of starting another post I'm just gonna post here.

So i think i have the parts list for this swap:

SelecTrac 4WD Shifter
Shifter Cable
4WD Shifter wiring

Vent Line for the 242
242 T-case

Front & Rear Differential (Dana 30 & 35 respectively)
Front & Rear Drive Shafts

And it should just slap right in there with my 42RE Tranny (Correct??)

Thanks to this site:
http://www.mallcrawlin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21324

He hasn't finished his conversion but it steered me in a correct direction (i think)

One thing I'm a bit unclear on is the overdrive for the transmission - do i need a new one to hook the tranny to the t-case? or if i have overdrive on the WJ is there a place to put the pieces in?

ANY comments / help is MUCH appreciated - I'm no where near knowing exactly what I'm talking about at all LOL. Just think I've had my jeep for too long not at least learn something about it....thanks all

Re: Has anyone converted a 2wd Grand to a 4WD

Ok - more reading could have avoided unnessessary questions:

You do need the overdrive section to connect the 242 to the Tranny but im pretty sure that everything else is in order

Re: Has anyone converted a 2wd Grand to a 4WD

Unless I find the deal of the century, I have had to officially put this project to bed. But I was told that a housing from a Wrangler would work, but I have not researched whether this is true or not. Finding a donor in any part of Alabama has been harder than what I would have expected.

That guy has just made the ultimate find in a Grand Cherokee. All that is in Central Alabama junkyards are ZJ's. But he is inspiration though on his progress.
