Headlight Issues

Hey guys having some issue with my lights.About 2-3 weeks ago I started noticing that my headlights were not turning off when I turned off my truck. If I re-inserted the key they would quickly shut off.It then got to the point where last week if I rotated the controls to the lights on position they would shut off but if I rotated it to a different spot like OFF or parking they would either come on or shut off , it varied.I am driving yesterday and my headlights start flashing and shut off on me.I switch back and forth between OFF/PARKING/ON and they come back on but only for a moment and then flash and shut off again but I reached my house so I just cursed and went inside.Tonight I go out and same thing only this time they flash , my dash won't light up and the brake lights are out as well.I was able to use my highbeams and flashers ( which are both working fine) to get home.I have no fk'n idea what could be wrong so I am hoping someone here might have experienced something along these lines and shed some light for me.Keep in mind the high beams are working and the tails along with flashers.I can't be certain that the brake lights are working or not as it was snowing but looking in my rearview I didn't see anything behind me light up red when I applied them. Also when I remote start the truck the headlights automatically come on and have continued to do so.Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Re: Headlight Issues

You need to be sure first if the brake lights are out or not, this could make a big difference in whats going on.
For now i would start swapping the low beam relay with the high beam relay, both on the junction block, and see if the fault goes to the high beams.
If not, its probably the switch stack.
When you say that the dash won´t light up, you mean the back lighting?

Re: Headlight Issues

I have some issues with my ignition switch from time to time. At one point I would not have any turn signals, reverse lights, radio, over head console or speedometer. Also to engage the starter I must have the switch in an exact position to work (difficult to explain). I have sprayed the ignition switch which has seemed to help, but the starter issue has not improved much and I am jsut dealing with it. Have you checked all the fuses/breakers under dash and engine compartment? Maybe a relay is failing. Where in NJ? I'm near GA. Good luck.

Re: Headlight Issues

i believe ive read that having too many keys on youre key ring causes this too much weight on the cylinder but this could be for a later year^^^^^^

Re: Headlight Issues

Yes Frango , the brake lights were definitely out.I brought it to my mechanic and he looked it over and changed the brake lights and all seemed good as far as he was concerned. All the lights were working properly for him and he had the truck during the day and there was no issues.I pick it up last night and within an hour of me driving it my headlights start to flash while I am driving.I have to go to work now but I have a video of what it is doing I can probably post later that might make my description make more sense

Re: Headlight Issues

So the brake lights problem had nothing to do with the headlights problem.
I would try swapping low beam and high beam relays first, this will not cost anything and you can then rule out the relays.

I could see that possibly causing a problem. I only have been using the key and remote though.

Re: Headlight Issues

Just a update..the day after my last post here I had zero issues. The lights are all fine and working like they were designed.Over a week now and everything is working fine.I am clueless as to what was causing the issue but for now all is good.

Re: Headlight Issues

I had remote start in my old '93 Cherokee and it developed some strange issues kind of like yours. It turned out to be a relay that was part of the remote start system. Something to check out.
