Re: Heater Blowing Cold Air Only

Well this is my 3rd GC. I had a 93 for a year or two, then a 94 for over 5 years. Now im in my 05 WK. I have always had great luck with my GC's, only "normal" things going on them like water pumps, batterys, belts and hoses. Replaced the fuel pump and my blend heater door motor went on my 94, but that had over 200K miles at that time. I luv GC's and will most likely keep buying them, though im not too keen on the 2011 models with the square lines. Reminds me of volvo suv's.

Its not that hard to get up into the dash and move the blend door open, least you will have heat.

Re: Heater Blowing Cold Air Only

Was it the blend doors? I had an extended warranty that covered mine, and I was grateful.

Re: Heater Blowing Cold Air Only

Me? In my 94 GC it was the blend door motor that went, so it wouldnt open or close. So I had it turned all the way open by hand in there.

Re: Heater Blowing Cold Air Only

What is the issue with so-so heat? Like just not as good as it once was. Same with air conditioning. 99 GC Laredo. Is it possible to fix this by hand like moving the thing inside and if so, pictures? lol thanks

Well first thing i'd do for the AC is do a recharge kit. For the so-so heat im not sure, maybe the doors are not working properly, opening all the way. The real only way to fix it, as with anything, is to go in there and take everything apart to see whats happening. Removing the dash does look scarey, but its pretty straight forward and takes some patience and time to do it right. Plan on a full weekend of ripping apart your dash and putting it back together. But it can be done.

Damn Hannes, I'm sorry to hear this bro!

I'm dreading the day this happens to mine, I think all WJs are gonna have this problem at some point...

I'd probably reluctantly sell the Jeep if/when they do pack in though, that's just way to much money to throw at something that is just a stupid design flaw. I'd wait until Spring/Summer so the dealer wouldn't notice they were bust though...

Re: Heater Blowing Cold Air Only

Come on guys, do it yourself and save alot of money. Go junk yarding, there are plenty of WJ's I have seen to go rip apart and take what you need. Go buy the manual for 15 bucks, which tells you what you need to do in order to swap everything out.

Re: Heater Blowing Cold Air Only

Personally if the truck was valued more, I'd definitely go through the junkyard but the blend door repair is literally a quarter for what I paid for the truck and I'd rather have the reliability of a more recent model. I don't know, if this particular situation happens to me, maybe my reaction might change since it is my daily driver and I'm just saying this out of speculation.

If I had no warranty and the blend door issue happened to me, goodbye WJ. JMO

Re: Heater Blowing Cold Air Only

In WK's I think it can be swapped out by removing the glove box only. I could be wrong, but it looks doable when I went in and replaced a simple blower motor resistor.

But im one to talk, thats why I saved for my WK I have now, blend door went and went a whole winter with little heat, the following year on the first day I went outside and there was frost on the car I said screw this and bought another car 2 days later. One of the happiest days in my life, lol. The heat cranks in my WK, 2-3 min into driving its already working.
