Help! intermittent Jeep feels as though the transmission is very sluggish.

2002 Laredo 4.0. When you put the transmission in drive, sometimes it feels as though it has no power. It will go and once you are to speed it seems fine. you still don't have much power when trying to increase speed. Any ideas?

Re: Help! intermittent Jeep feels as though the transmission is very sluggish.

Welcome to the garage.
Can be several things, but i would start measuring the fuel pressure or just change the fuel filter/pressure regulator. Also a plugged up exhaust will reduce a lot the power, they can measure the exhaust pressure to see if this is the problem.

Re: Help! intermittent Jeep feels as though the transmission is very sluggish.

I took it to a trans shop yesterday and the guy there told me that one of the sensors in the trans is on the blink. He quoted me $350 to $400 to fix it. I can do most things but a transmission is not one of them. I am going to check around to see if anyone can give me a better price. If that doesn't fix it I will go down the fuel or exhaust road. Thank you every post on this forum you reply to and you seem to know a lot. I thank you for all of the help you have given me so far and didn't even know it. This forum has been a godsend.

Re: Help! intermittent Jeep feels as though the transmission is very sluggish.

What did the mechanic do to come to his conclusion? Was there any fault code set?
Does it feel if the transmission is slipping? (engine rpm increase without normal acceleration)?
