Re: Help replacing cv joint on front driveshaft
Replaced mine some years ago with a Dorman part from Rockauto. Not too difficult to do. Remove the propeller shaft by removing the 6 bolts from each CV side. You now have to remove the circlip which holds the CV joint on the shaft. With the circlip removed it will not just fall of, you have to hold the old CV joint in a fence or so and tap with a hammer on the shaft, now the shaft will come out. Clean the shaft well and put the new boot on it with a bit of grease for the boot to slide over. You need to put some silicone on the paperlike seal on the boot side to seal it of for water ingress. use two of the axle mounting bolts to align the boot with the joint and gently tap the joint on the axle. Only tap on the center of the joint. Install circlip and put the supplied grease in the joint while moving it to get the grease in. Now put some silicone on the paperlike gasket from the matal side which closes the joint (remove any grease which is on the mating surface from the joint). Put it together and wait until the silicone is dry. When you would install the shaft while the silicone is wet, it will become loose again and sealing could become compromised. Put all bolts in now to be sure they all align well. If you have nuts the same size of the 6 bolts, you could install them to keep the CV joint together while the silicone dries.
