is it worth doing

Hi there I have just joined this site as im wondering if someone knows of somewhere I can purchase an engine rebuild kit for a 2003 4.7 litre grand Cherokee(the engine with the black rocker covers)My engine has only done 140.000 kms and already done a big end bearing,i am not interested in paying $3000+which is what the going rate seems to be in Australia.
Surely I can purchase a cheap one from the States or somewhere and get it postedalso if anyone can give me any info on where to purchase1 that would be much appreciated also tweeks regarding this engine during the rebuild that would be much appreciated as this will be the first time ive undertaken this type of project-can I get at the required rebuild from under the car or do I have to remove the engine, also cause my garage has limited height it is looking like I will have to dismantle the front and pull the engine out from there anyway im going to start with the Haynes manual and go from there....learn as I go so to speak haha
Cheers peeps

Re: is it worth doing

Welcome to the garage.
A good source for most of the parts is: RockAuto Parts Catalog. They send to most countries.
Any idea what caused the big end bearing to go bad? Oil pressure was ok? No sludge buildup in the engine.

Re: is it worth doing

Gday Frango Thanks for the info.
I have no idea what made it happen its got me baffled!,the wife was driving it I was working away at the time, there doesn't appear to be any sludge in the engine,no oil pressure drop-on compression test there is no compession in number 2 cylander, all I can think is the oil pickup has blocked somehow or something the previous owner has done-im working away at present so havnt had a chance to strip it yet but I have found an engine rebuild kit for $570US on ebay USA but what I need to find out is if it is suitable for my donk as it is listed as 2003 dodge Jeep 4.7 litre and mine is badged Chrysler WJ Jeep Grand Cherokee so made by Hemi, any info would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
