Eventful one it was the left rear calliper started binding entering a 2 mile long tunnel.
Got out in the end billowing smoke from the brake , fair to say the calliper is toast hahaha, disconnected the brake line found some aluminium foil beside the road rolled it into a little ball what I put in the female part of the brake line.
Screwed in the male part and managed to block the fluid going into the calliper , applied some controlled lol force to get the pads free and managed to get home with three brakes.
Some issues showed up, the evic is not responding very well , it works but can't change the settings it seems that some buttons don't work but it might get back online after a while because in the beginning not one button functioned and now the menu one does.
Driver side power seat all mothers work but I guess the hinges are tight or smth, can't get full adjustment yet.. Just soaked the hinges in WD 40 lets see what will be the result tomorrow.
Tires I reaLly need to change, fronts are way more worn then the rears, tight corners I can feel the NV 247 working its ass off so better don't wait too long.
Stereo infinity gold, basically sucks and left rear speaker isn't working.

Other than those issues mentioned the car is simply brand new, like a time machine really I will shoot some pics tomorrow when I start changing all fluids and filters ,v belt ,wiper blades, the whole lot.

Must say the WJ is a huge improvement over my 130k Laredo ZJ

wj rear calipers are known to lock up.

didn't see what year it was.

But things I would do.

Change brake fluid, lube all the caliper pins.

Change Transfercase fluid, Change Front and rear differential fluid.
Change transmission filter and fluid.

Depending on the year you may want to do the Akebono brake caliper swap on the fronts. <--- WAY better setup All bolt on swap.

I used a Powerstop 1 stop brake kit got all 4 rotors Pads and Calipers.

Re: Just bought my first WJ!

Thanks!

Its a 2000 model with the old style calipers still, no vibration as yet. fingers crossed.

Update:

Yesterday did the rear brakes, new pistons- seals and pads, fronts seem ok but i will lube the pins etc.
Transfer case fluid changed.
Engine oil + larger filter.
Brake fluid.
Flushing the cooling system, still ongoing.
New mopar belt.
Airfilter

Today 4 265/60 16 general Grabber either UHP or AT2 will go on havent decided yet which type it will be.

Just found out i have the complete Upcounty package on the car.
Skis plates front, trans and feul tank.
Towing hitch
Trans cooler
And obviously a higher stance

Pretty pleased about that

That tire is going to be little wide on the WJ stock

you can do a 245/70/16 Completely safe.

or do a 225/75/16

I would wait for the synthetic stuff, since the manual calls for it.

i had 265/75/16's on 4" lift stock Timberlines with the Backspacing being so large it will rub the fenders on reverse etc. I had to use spyder trak spacers

265 may rub the lower control arms with the backspacing of the stock rims. and front plastic. I had to cut the front bumper off.

Re: Just bought my first WJ!

Thanks! decided to go with the 255/70 16 to be on the safe side.

Ok all fluids changed, niggling issues still are:

Ventilation control doesnt work, it blows a little trough all channels but i v=cant direct ore air flow to for example defrost.
Front seat motors run but there is limited movement.
ABS light stays on..... cleaned the sensors but ti no avail.

Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ - Climate controls

I would have a Dealer Flush the Brake system.

they can tell the ABS pump to run while it's being bleed to get the air out. Abs is a PITA

Re: Just bought my first WJ!

Hum, i think ill just going to remove the ABS light bulb.. no snow and ice here and allot less headache.
ABS hasnt ever helped me in the past so ill take the plunge, the level of incompetence here at dealerships is astounding so i prefer to stay far away from them.

Re: Just bought my first WJ!

You donīt have a scanner which can show ABS related faults? Or look for a shop where they can do this for you. Was the light on before you changed the brake fluid? Did you check the ABS fuse?

Re: Just bought my first WJ!

Checked the fuses, light came on as halfway the ride back home when I bought it.
My scanner doesn't show ABS codes ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1453460369.342019.jpg

New tires 255/70 16

Okay new tires transformed the car, the old ones where really hard apparently much smoother ride.

Driver side power seat motor is working but i guess the gears are toast, are gears and so fort interchangeable with the ZJ?

plenty of ZJ stuff around but not much WJ in these parts.
