Knocking while coasting.

I have a 1999 wj.

Just started noticing this last night.

When I am driving and take my foot off the gas to coast there is a knocking. Almost rotational noise, thought I was a flat at first, and when I push on the accelerator the noise goes away. Jeep doesn't seem to be running any different then usual, just this strange sound.

Starting to get frustrated with my jeep, I have put close to $3000 into it this summer and am still having problems.

Any help would be appreciated.

Which engine do you have?

First have a look under the jeep for any signs of grease leaking from CV joints and if you can feel any abnormal play on them. Do you hear any noise when making turns? Could be something with a wheel bearing as well.

Took it in. Left rear wheel lug nuts were loose.... That is the last thing I would have checked.

Lucky that you didn´t loose the wheel. I would rethink the place to take it to next time.....

Randomhero180, my wife’s grand Cherokee just developed the exact same issue in the last week. I was all over a few other forums looking for what the issue might be and then I stumbled across this forum and thread.

I put one of the kids in the back for a test drive and had them isolate which side it was coming from, got home and jacked her up, 4 out of the 5 lug nuts were loose!

Tightened them up...problem solved!

Thanks guys!
