Left rear line.

So yeah, as I'm leaving from having my WJ detailed I pull out of the area and go to stop at the first light. NOPE!!! brake pedal goes all the way down to the floor. I pulled over right away and saw brake fluid pouring out from under the rear driver side area. I managed to make it home using the e-brake( risky yes but took only 2 mins from where it happened luckily).

After I got underneath and cleaned the water and fluid that was all over the area, I was able to spot where the leak was coming from, on the LONG brake line on the VERY last clip before it mates with the rubber hose back there. Needless to say it was rusted through pretty badly.

I know, from previous forums I've been on that there is a pre-bent line sold by Mopar that I can order, but have had no luck finding the part number and the local dealer hasnt been very helpful. Has anyone here replaced this line? The only other alternative would be to start splicing and such (which, while I'm very mechanically inclined, I havent done any tube bending/flaring in about 15 years or so)


Worst part of all this is that my new WK2 is almost here and I was just cleaning my WJ up one last time before giving it up in a few days when this happened.

Any help here would be great and thanks in advance!

Bourbon don't waste your time with that line you'll never ever get it snaked up into place without ruining it. I've tried. That line was put there before the drive line was installed. I had that $30 line so bent up I threw it away. Get a six foot piece and start from the back and put that bend to the fitting in. Snap it into the clips the whole way up. The union (no compression fittings!)will end up out in the open between the crossmember and front brake hose mount. Get a bubble flare adapter for the antilock side and another 5 foot line to be sure(4 foot would probably work) and run it down to the union keeping away from the steering shaft but not following all those nasty bends in the original line. Measure about 3 times cut it and flare it and screw it together if you remembered to put the fitting on

Thanks for the reply guys.

As impatient as I am by nature, shortly after my OP I went ahead and bought a 25 foot roll of AGS poly armor steel tubing (very easy to bend by hand) and necessary cutter/flare tools. I figure, what the hell, might as well use the time to refresh on those skills instead of paying someone else to do it.

I wont be able to start on this until Sunday, but it should be pretty painless.

Mine did the exact same thing while I was pressure testing the brakes... Luckily I was home. Any way I bought a double flare kit and a long length of steel tubing and only replaced the section that was badly corroded which was pretty much the entire length that ran horizontally front to rear. Double flaring the tubing was easier than expected.

yeah so I only replaced the bad section. it had 2 pin sized holes right under that last clip. I'm like a flaring expert now, mostly because i screwed it up so many times, or at least i thought i did. Turns out I had the wrong type of union. 4 extra hours of headache behind that mistake lol.

But once I figured that out and installed the correct one, I took it to a shop and had them bleed the brakes for me for like 25 bucks. They said it was one of the most professional looking repair jobs they've ever seen on a brake line lol.
