lost 4wd

Hi, bought used '04 GC limited w/ 4.7 and haven't put on road yet but after fighting the snow and just (trying ) to move around my driveway, I don't seem to have 4 wheel high and when shifted into 4w low, real nasty clanking coming from front end. Traction is almost non existent in the snow and only rear wheels spin, until I shift to 4w l and then the clanking.

Re: lost 4wd

Quadra drive or quadra trac? Most probably a faulty progressive coupler inside the T case which prevent the 4 hi operation. For the clunking in 4 lo, check the propeller shaft joints for play. Sometimes the drive chain inside the T case is stretched too much and skipping teeth.

Quadra track 2, don't know what the service record is on the T case and such, maybe I could get lucky and need oil, ha ha.

Re: lost 4wd

So you have the NV 247 T-case which has the progressive coupler. Checking the fluid level and/or just putting new fluid in is always a good idea when the service history is not known. This T-case needs the special Mopar T-case fluid, which is just Mobil 424 fluid.
