Minor incident... ideas on a cheap fix?

So, as some of you on my facebook may know, I had a minor ****-up last weekend. No, I'm not happy about it in the least and I'd rather not get into the events leading up to it (lol), but yeah. I seem to have managed to hit something for the first time ever... and now I have a battle scar that pains me every time I look at it.

I took these pics after I had used some scratch remover and other stuff to rid myself of a lot of the white marks... but as you can see, it's still pretty awful.

It makes me physically sick to think about / look at... but I'm not really in a situation to pay for a whole new bumper at the moment OR to repaint or any of that. I tried finding some touchup paint to match but apparently my color is damn near impossible to find. I then was given the idea of just painting the front bumper ONLY a matte black.. I honestly liked the way it looked but when I posted it on facebook I didn't get many likes... more of the fact that it would make it "look more like a laredo" but I seriously don't think it does, considering the rest is painted... and to me it blends in with the whole pewter/black thing I have going on everywhere else anyway..

Ideas? Suggestions? Tell me you want to kill me for being so irresponsible with the poor WJ? LOL...

Re: Minor incident... ideas on a cheap fix?

Sorry to hear bout the accident

have you tried buffing it out with some compound ?

looks like that paint is chipped check car-part.com can't see any damage to the bumper itself so u might get away with that re-painting it

the black-pewter look meh not a fan of it

Yeah, it's chipped pretty badly and the bumper is scraped pretty deep. I know you can't really tell from the picture I have here but when you run your finger over it, it goes pretty far down in the black areas..

Re: Minor incident... ideas on a cheap fix?

Sell some stuff you're not using on ebay and then find a place to prep and paint, or you could do all the prep work yourself and then just hand it off to get painted

Sorry to hear Brooke, if it doesn't buff out the only other option is repainting.

Find someone who is a good detailer and knows how to properly use touch up paint. That can be fixed.

Re: Minor incident... ideas on a cheap fix?

I hate to say it, but I've been there before... Those deep black marks are were you have lost all of the paint, and the plastic bumper is exposed. A detail guy might be able to work some majic, but touch up paint needs at least some primer over those black areas to stick on the long term. The real fix would be to sand it down, and repaint the bumper. It may not be to costly to do. Try going around to different body shops and get a couple estimates, and talk to a few detail guys before you write off the damage as permanent, they may cut you a sweet deal if they need the work...

Good luck with the fix, but I would just go with painting it the original color, your Jeep looks good with the original!

Re: Minor incident... ideas on a cheap fix?

There is a guy here in Birmingham that does automotive paint details such as what type of damage you have, so I know there would have to someone like him in the Memphis/North Mississippi area. My wife had a teenage back into her in the parking lot where she teaches. But the guy came to my house and he removed all the paint in the damaged area and repainted that part of the bumper. He did some other little touch ups also and I think it was $125.

A quick google search came up with a place called MR. Touch up. 901-844-2121.

Good Luck

Brian
