my 01 grand cherokee car alarm issue..

how's it goin guys. new to the forums and i think i'ma stick around. sucks to be you i know. but i got a question i need help with please!!

i just got this 01 grand cherokee limited V8. the last owner lost the original key and keyless entry remote. but she ordered a new key, and i need to get a remote. now when i lock the doors using the power lock, it sets the alarm of course, and when i unlock it with the key, the alarm goes off.

maybe one out of every 15 times it doesn't go off. why does it happen and/or how can i fix it??!

i live at a pretty big condo, and i leave for work early, i feel horrible when my alarm goes off at 7 every morning. and i can't leave it unlocked cause i have a system and what not.

ideas??!!

is it the oem keyless entry and alarm? If so call justforjeeps and order a new remote. I'm pretty sure a dealer would have to program the remote for you as well. They are probably vin specific. justforjeeps is a vendor here...so mention jeepgarage and theyll give you 5% off your order. You can find them in the vendor forum....or online at justforjeeps.com

I dont think the remotes are "on board programmable", meaing the dealer is going to have to hook the computer up to the truck to program the remote for you. Our machine here in the shop works that way..You can try Ebay also for a remote. Make sure the part numbers match though..

Re: my 01 grand cherokee car alarm issue..

well i can get a remote, i have no problem doing that

sorry i rushed the post, i was in a hurry to get back to work. but the last owner lost the original key and remote. she then bought a replacement key. I DO NOT HAVE A REMOTE. for now atleast.

when i lock the car using the power locks, it sets the alarm. when i unlock teh car using the key(the only way i can unlock the car) and i open the door, the alarm goes off untill i turn the ignition on.

any idea's how to fix the alarm issue, i feel horrible when i wake my building up every morning at 7am.

have you tried locking the car with the key? my friends 98 remote is broken so thats what he does. but i don't know what the differences are between the systems though. like on his it kills the fuel pump if you start it after the alarm.

Re: my 01 grand cherokee car alarm issue..

k well i figured out why it was going off..

theres a alarm switch in teh door lock, and it is going out, supposedly it's pretty common according to the dealer. but its 103 for the switch alone.

but it still works, i just have to wait a second for the interior lights to turn on before i open the door. it litterally is only half a second so no big deal for now. thanks for the idea's though guys.

p.s. i got a remote so it doesn't even matter now 75$ later
