Question mystery switch under steering column

While working on an a/c issue which is detailed in another thread, I came across a mystery switch under my steering column just hanging by a wire. I am sure it must go to something and probably shouldn't just be hanging there, but I don't know what it's for or what it should be attached to. I am attaching some pictures. Any ideas what this is for?

Thanks in advance!

Re: mystery switch under steering column

Is it really a switch? From the pictures it seems to be a steel cable for the actuation of something.

Well, we think it is a switch. It is spring loaded and when you push the little yellow part in/back and it springs forward again.

Re: mystery switch under steering column

I remember seeing that when I had my dash out a few years ago, dug through some old photos stored on my time capsule and came up with these three. I can't recall what or where it hooked into though and I no longer have my WJ or I'd check for you but the opposite end looks to go to the shifter area.

Re: mystery switch under steering column

Isn't it the cable which locks the key when the shifter is not in park?

Re: mystery switch under steering column

I think you may be correct but it's been so long. Easiest way for the op to know is to leave it in neutral shut it off and try to remove the key if it comes out then that's the answer.
