New Guy Trans ?

Hey Everyone, I recently bought an 01 JGC Limited with a 4.7 Quadra, just did timing chains which was no fun! Now my second issue is any time I shift into gear there is a tick tick tick tick tick from the trans area. It sounds like an actuator or solenoid to me. Just not sure yet. I have heard this same noise on another JGC but it was a heap. Hopefully it's a diy fix after the timing chains I was persuaded to get an addco rear sway bar and just ordered blend doors. And wouldn't you know it my EVIC is going out. DAMN JEEPS LOL Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I did try searching here and other sites with no luck
Tim

Re: New Guy Trans ?

Yeh, i don't know why, but mine does it as well. I had a complete overhaul of my tranny lately and the first days i didn't hear that sound anymore, but its back again and i'm used to it.
Regarding your EVIC, take it out of your jeep and check very well the solders on the circuit board, they are known to get loose over time and give all kind of problems. Just re-solder the loose ones and you should be ok.

Re: New Guy Trans ?

Thanks everyone, that noise wasn't there when I got the Jeep and started about 3 weeks ago, I am just one of those guys that doesn't like starnge noises! Guessing I will learn to live with it though. Thanks for the info on the EVIC, I believe it is still working just the display sort of comes and goes, maybe the led s are burning out.

Re: New Guy Trans ?

Could still be solders on the circuit board of the EVIC, just have a good look.

Re: New Guy Trans ?

Yep, to beat a dead horse, that is a perfectly normal noise from most chrysler transmissions not just the RFE.

Honestly I really never hear mine over my blasting music (or massive V8 ) and funny, but tonight I just noticed it as I climbed into the jeep right next to a closed shop door with my window open and heard it. This noise has nothing to do with the health of the trans... your good!
