No MIL at start up

2000 Jeep GC (WJ) 4.0L 4WD Laredo
Had a P0138 code. Found the short in wiring harness that was up against the manifold. Separated wires. Insulated them. Code cleared itself.
NOW I failed smog. No Check Engine Light at key/ignition on dash. Bulb was burned out. Replaced it.
Still no MIL at start up??????????????????

Re: No MIL at start up

Welcome to the garage.
You can do the instrument self test to see if it will come on then: with ignition in OFF, push the odometer reset knob and while pressing, switch the ignition to RUN. Now the selftest will start and all indicator lights must come on. (also all instruments will go to full scale and return to normal indication and odometer will count 111111, 22222222 etc). As soon as the test starts, you can release the reset knob. If it still doesn´t come on, i would check again if the new bulb is ok. If it is, then most probably the problem is with the instrument cluster circuit board.
There are two fuses for the instrument cluster (#17 and #22 on the junction block under the steering wheel area), but probably none of the instrument warning lights would work with one of them blown.
