oil gauge problems

hi guys, glad to be a new member of jeep garage. i have a 99 wj grand cherokee 4.7. i was wanting to get some info. on my oil gauge. when i bought it a yr. ago my oil gauge would drop to 0 when in park, but if i would rev it up it would go up to 40, or if driving would stay at 40. so i just change the oil sending switch now it does the opp. when in park in idle it stays at 40 & when i give it gas & rev it up it drops past 0 , or if i drive it , it drops past 0 & the check gauge light comes on. if i kick it in passing gear it will go up to 50 until the gear kicks back down then it goes back to past 0.do you think it could be the oil gauge is bad. once winter is over & i can get my 22;s back on i will send some pic, thanks guys any help will be highly app.

Re: oil gauge problems

Are you sure that you got the correct pressure sensor?

The later model WJs just have a idiot gauge that always shows a little over half if there is any oil pressure at all and zero if the engine is off.

Someone may have given you the wrong sensor.

Another thing you could do is remove the sensor and temporarily screw in a manual gauge and start and run the engine, just to be sure that you actually have adequate oil pressure.
