Oil leak

Hi everyone,

I have an '04 with the 4.7 and it has an oil leak. I'm pretty sure that it's the rear main seal. Has anyone had to repair this and if so what kind of expense am I looking at? It has 137000 miles on it. From what I can tell I'm not losing a ton of oil in between oil changes.

Thanks on advance!

Re: Oil leak

I have a small leak as well, which i thought it came from the aft crankshaft seal. Now i have my transmission removed for an overhaul and the aft seal area is dry. I think it comes from the left valve cover on mine, but still not 100% sure.
If it is the aft crankshaft seal on yours, the tranny has to be removed to get access to it. Then the flexplate must be removed. There is a special tool to get the old seal out, not sure if you could do it without this tool.
