Oil Leaking

My Wj with over 200,000 on it and has a pretty bad oil leak it may use like 1qt every 1000 miles or so. I have a pan under the Jeep where I park it, it's getting to a point I have to try something. I hope this weekend to attach it and hope to fix it as best I can I pretty sure it will never go away completely but I hope to make it better. Looking all over the web know some places to check. I'm going to check the valve cover, oil pan, rear main seal and oil filter mount, I also read that behind the fly wheel there is a screw that also leaks, I have worked on a inline 6 before but I don't remember that screw in the back. I don't want to take off the trans and find out that there is no such screw. Any ideas on what else to look at I would appreciate it.

Re: Oil Leaking

The valve cover on the 4.0 L engine is most likely. It leaks from the back and runs down the back of the engine and acts like a rear main seal. Run your fingers behind the cover and see if there is oil there. Be sure you check the two vent elbows with their grommets on top of the cover. They often harden and leak. Also check the oil sender unit on this engine.
