Ok... which sensor this time?

Intermittently(5 or 6 times over couple weeks) while driving, the engine just shut off. After pulling over and pulling the key out and trying it again, I notice the fuel gauge(and probably others) were not responding. After 30 seconds or so I try again and notice the gauge lights up and starts fine.

This hasn't seemed to happen at any specific time; once while driving 40, once while at stop light, once right after starting to drive, etc.

Any opinions?

Thanks,
J

Re: Ok... which sensor this time?

I have seen internal pcm failures cause this exact symptom, you loose your guages because there is no communication with the pcm, when your guages come to life it is after your pcm has come back online... On the DRBIII chrysler scan tool it will tell you how many starts since dtc's were cleared and a big indication that your concern is what I have seen multiple times is your counter will be at 0 indicating the memory was just wiped out.

Disclamer: this is not a "diagnosis" just a known suggestion.

Re: Ok... which sensor this time?

I had the same problem. Sounds like a bad pcm. Mine would also stall randomly. I replaced the pcm and has been running fine since then.

Re: Ok... which sensor this time?

Boooooo, so it just happened two more times.
Both of which were coming down a hill(no clue if related). Also, when I turn the key back over to "check" if the gauges are back(after stalling), the Fuel, Check Gauges and No Key lights turn on, all other power is fine(radio, lights, etc). Then eventually they will all come back after a minute or so.

None of my counters are being cleared when this happens.

That help anyone?

Re: Ok... which sensor this time?

The counter I speak of is not visible by you, it is read by a scantool.

Re: Ok... which sensor this time?

The no key light is what i was also getting. And if you try and turn it over, it turns over but no start.

Re: Ok... which sensor this time?

So right after my post I pulled my battery terminals off and noticed the Ground was caked with that white powder. I scraped the hell out of them and re-installed.

Drove all day yesterday without a stall. Fingers crossed.
