Over-heating?

I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee that and the temp gauge has recently been rising while driving, then I hear what sounds like a rodent scratching beneath the passenger dash, and then the temp gauge goes back to normal. Any ideas what is going on? Is the engine really over-heating or is it a faulty temp sensor? Thanks in advance.

Re: Over-heating?

Does the temperature (indication) of the coolant go to 260?? If so, i would think that the thermostat is sticking closed.
