Overdrive Problem

Took the Jeep out for a run yesterday for the first time since it was laid up last July. It appears that for some reason the overdrive has now decided not to work (it did before lay up). When turned on the light on the dash board illuminates but nothing else happens.

A quick search on the net gave these as possible causes:

  • One of the speed sensors not working
  • Low transmission fluid level
  • Temperature sensor not working
  • Throttle position sensor adjustment
  • Kick down cable adjustment
  • Inhibitor/reverse light switch adjustment

There are no fault codes coming up and I would have thought that any one of those would generate a code. Any one got any other ideas as to what could be the cause and not just down to lack of use for nearly a year?

4.0 or 4.7 engine?
Are the first 3 gears working normally and shifting fine?
When the OD light is ON on the dash, it means that the overdrive is inhibited.
