oxygen sensor replacement

I got a CEL last week. Checked the code and its P0051. Oxygen sensor Bank 2 sensor 1.
I have an 04 I6 4.0
I found this diagram its 2/1
http://www.wjjeeps.com/oxygen_40.jpg
now in that diagram it looks easy to get to. Now with the engine in the bay and everything else around it, no so much.

Just wondering how do I get to it to replace?

thanks
Jason

Re: oxygen sensor replacement

What emissions do you have? Either way tho you should be able to reach them without doing anything too extensive...it is only a o2 sensor....From under the truck you should be able to reach it no problem....might have to just jack the frame up.

Re: oxygen sensor replacement

from underneath is the way to go and you will need to use an O2 socket as a regular socket will not work.

cool thanks Joe. Anymore tips? Can I get away with driving up onto a curb to raise the jeep so I can get undeneath it? Also I was told I could just use a 7/8 wrench or pipe wrench, is that the case?

Re: oxygen sensor replacement

Can't really comment on the curb idea as I've always used ramps myself. A wrench can work but be real care you don't round off the nut or you'll be attempting to figure out how to get a set of vice grips into a very small area.

haha okay I gotcha. I will see what I can do. Atleast now I know I need to get at it from underneath. Maybe I will just wait for oil change in near future and let my mechanice change it up.

Re: oxygen sensor replacement

I'd go and get a cheap o2 wrench at a auto store or something...
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...%7CGRP2083____

Just to make it easy on ya...no ghetto rig and it's cheap.

As far as jacking it up....if you can make it to CT i'd let ya use my floor jack but you could probably squeeze under your jeep if your not a lard ass like myself :-p

LOL thanks for the offer. I am used to lowered cars, so my floor jack prolly wouldn't do me any good on my Jeep. And I haven't tried it yet, but I dont think I'd be able to fit under it wihtout raising it. I will prolly just wait until my oil change and let mechanic do it.
