Re: p0171 1999 grand cherokee

Eventhough what you see from the sensor doesnt look bad, the actual sensing element is inside the perforated shell. After the amount of miles on them, it would not be a wonder if they where performing bad.

Re: p0171 1999 grand cherokee

So after road trip, all went well. Slight increase in mpg

I understand that with the miles on them they were more than likely beginning to falter. What i saw as a good sign was the clean look. No real deposits, no oil, etc. being directly on the exhaust side, it seems as though it was running relatively clean. It never has burned oil, or smoked out of the exhaust. It is encouraging as to the condition of the mechanicals of the engine itself.
That on top of the lack of wear on the rear main bearing when i did rear main seal.....
I do have a little lower end knocking on start up, but goes away after a minute or 2

So, driving home last night the check engine light started flashing. I happened to have my trusty scan tool handy so i plugged in.
Po300, 301, 303, 304, 306
As i was watching the light stopped flashing and just went to solid.
I know what rhe codes mean, but with that many misfires, i would think i would notice. But Shrek was cruising along like nothing was wrong.
I have had intermitent instances of rhe CEL flashing whike under load.
I believe rhe fix is new cats. I have ca emission set up on my 4.0, so need the twin little cats.
Everywhere I look, all I see is the cats that are not leagal to sell in CA. If I were to want to put on the actual aproved ca cats, where would I find them?
And if i put on the ones that are not ca approved, does anyone know if there are performance issues with them??
