Po455

PO455. Where do I start and is this what's causing my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with 4.7 v8 to idle up and down??

Re: Po455

This is an EVAP code: DTC P0455 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Leak Detected.
This code normally means that you have a cracked or loose hose in the EVAP line. Many times the hose dries out and start leaking where it passes at the rear axle.
Not 100% sure if this would cause the idle to surge, but first try to find and repair the leak and let us know.

Re: Po455

2 separate problems unless you have a failing purge solenoid, that could cause idle concerns, BUT as stated, above the rear axle is a common hose leak point right wherre the rubber line from the canister installs onto the hard metal line that goes up to the front... there and also lines above the canister like to crack, these are not fun to get to at all.

your likely idle concern is a failing throttle position sensor... VERY common on the 4.7l.

Re: Po455

jesus I can't even find these parts!!! is it because I have that skid plate over my gas tank?? I did find a hose that was shoved up by the fuel fill lines and not connected to anything. I followed it down to the driver side rear axle? could this be the problem?? it has some kind of little white plastic (valve) and cap on the end.
!cid__IMG00060-20120806-1826.jpg this is the end of the hose.
dont know where this is supposed to be, but pretty sure not just shoved up in some cavity under my jeep??? Oh, btw, about a month ago I had to have a new fuel pump put in my jeep. Maybe the mechanic didn't hook something back up and that's causing the code???

Re: Po455

@2005JGC I have only two codes. the 455 and the one for my 1/1 oxygen sensor...but the 02 sensor has been on the fritz for a long time. just haven't gotten around to changing it. the idle issues just started a week or so ago.

Re: Po455

That is the breather line from the aft differential. The small cap at the end prevents dirt going in and releases pressure buildup when the diff heats up. So that line is ok as is.

Re: Po455

Okay. I will look some more tomorrow if I have time. I will take the wheel off and the wheel well if that's what I'm supposed to do. Question...do I look on the left or the right? and.....is left/right determined facing the front of jeep or standing behind it. LOL.
I will look for pictures to help me locate to.

Re: Po455

For the good order and preventing misunderstandings, we normally take the drivers position as a reference for left/right.
The EVAP canister and lines are hidden behind the left wheel well aft side.
