Power steering fluid

Hi guys,

The JEEP service manual tells me to get a MS 5931 fluid for the power steering. Any recommendation from your side as an alternate?

Re: Power steering fluid

Not too sure about an alternative. I bought mine from the dealer because it was only 6.

Re: Power steering fluid

No recommendations for an alternate, just like the NV247 transfer case fluid, you might as well just get the P/S fluid from the dealer.

There was a Valvoline synthetic blend p/s fluid part number VV056 a few years back that said it met MS5931 but I can no longer find it.

Re: Power steering fluid

I used some non mopar PS fluid from the autoparts store when I replaced my High pressure PS hose, and have not had any problems in the passed 9 months.

Re: Power steering fluid

dont know if this problem was from fluid or the pump just being bad but, i had my power steering pumped chaged at a shop they pu t a brand new unit in and put the wrong fluid in it. it worked out for around 3k then took a dump and stopped working he had to replace it and used the correct fluid. not a problem since and been on for a year now with lots of miles and a a few trips. so maybe fluid can play a big role in the system id get it from the dealer imo.......

Re: Power steering fluid

I found that Valvoline Synthetic Power Steering fluid meets Chrysler and MS5931 specification and is listed on the label.

Re: Power steering fluid

I'm running a locally brewed fully synthetic fluid for 3 years now and it performs very well.
Its in fact again time to change the fluid with some fresh one.
