Power steering problems

At idle, I've got nothing, just whines. If I increase rpms, everything seams to operate properly.

Curious if it's a pump problem, belt problem, or gearbox issue?

Re: Power steering problems

Did you check the fluid level?
If level is ok, it most probably is the pump. Your jeep most probably doesn´t have the hydraulic cooling fan?

Re: Power steering problems

Yea, fluid is fine. No fan.

Do ya think jacking it up and bleeding it would help? It started after doing some off roading the other night.

I found out I haven't been using the right fluid too. Been using store bought ps fluid, instead of the mopar recommended. Is it actual ps fluid or just atf +4? Was debating on flushing it with the proper stuff, but it's probably just as easy to change the pump, fill with mopar, and then bleed it.

Re: Power steering problems

I run a non mopar PS fluid for many years, but it should be a synthetic fluid. Its no ATF +4. I wonder if your jeep, without the hydraulic cooling fan, still needs the mopar stuff.
