Re: Quadadrive issues

The seal is inside the diff housing. You have to remove the diff, for which the manual states that a spreader is needed to give it a bit more room to get out. Donīt know if the diff can be removed without the spreader. You should change the seals from both sides at this occasion, otherwise you have to repeat this whole process probably later again. Did you see anything special to the diff, did you try to rotate the front propeller shaft with the T-case in N?
Fluid for Quadra Drive is 75W140 and limited slip additive is also needed.

For the front diff? Limited slip lube? Really. Which Amsoil can I run as I get it dirt cheap...... can't I.just.change the outside wheel seal? Near the axle bearings behind the brakes?

Re: Quadadrive issues

I have no idea which seal you changed then, but the seals which should keep the diff fluid inside the diff, are mounted from inside the diff housing.
When you have Quadra Drive, it means that you have the vari-Loc in front and rear diff housing. To prevent binding in curves, the limited slip additive is needed.
No idea which Amsoil you can use, but probably an other member will chime in on that.

Re: Quadadrive issues

The rear axle is different, it has indeed the seals just outside of the wheel bearings. For the front axle they are inside the diff.

Re: Quadadrive issues

Amsoil severe gear 75w-140 is listed as probably not needing limited slip additive, you would have to load it up and take it for a test drive to see if there is any binding, if so you would need to add a few ounces of limited slip additive. I plan on using amsoil when I do my front and rear diffs this fall.

Re: Quadadrive issues

The stuff from the dealer is for sure ok, otherwise read the label to see if it says "not for Jeeps with quadra drive" or something like that, I've seen that on some labels. Amsoil slip lock should be ok i think.

Then it probably already has the limited slip additive mixed in it.

I never have done this job myself and if you really need a spreader to spread the diff (just around .30 mm max), its probably a job for a mechanic with the right tools. Maybe someone overhere did this job before and can chime in.
