Tires caused the vibration and bad shocks caused the worn tires! Good luck!
It wasn't a vibration I could feel, I just heard it. It sounded like a rotor was was out of sync, if you can imagine that. I let off the gas and it stopped. This only happened a few times.

The tires are wearing fine, so I think I'm ok there.

When I put the lift on, I definitely amplified the rattle, so I'm hoping its that UCA. Otherwise, back to the drawing board.

Re: Rattle/Vibration Rear

Try gettin some spray lube and spray the tops and bottoms of shocks, etc. and see if it takes it away. Mine does it once in a while, that's what I do, and it takes care of it.

Re: Rattle/Vibration Rear

Just a little update - I put a 2" lift on - replaced shocks and still the rattle. After I finished putting new sway bar links on, I noticed the entire shroud/caliper assembly was lose. I then tightened the 4 nuts behind the rotor and it tightened up that assembly. Once the weather gets a little nicer, I'm going to replace the nuts with lock nuts or lock washers in there if there's room.

After I tightened everything down, rode nice and smooth without any clunks bumps or noises.

I had also replaced the rear upper control arm and ball joint so that could have helped with a few of my other noises as well...

Re: Rattle/Vibration Rear

You could use locktight on the bolt threads to prevent them from loosening again.

Re: Rattle/Vibration Rear

I replaced the end links and lower control arms on my '01 WJ, before getting word from a neighbor that the lower shock bolt was the common issue. He said no other bolt will fix it, ONLY a bolt from Jeep (or another Jeep). So after visiting a junkyard and grabbing one, the rattling went away. What I found was at the head of the bolt, the shaft of the bolt is wide and tapers down. It's threadless for a bit and then the threads start and go to the end of the bolt. On my original bolt, the widened end under the head, was pretty much gone, with heavy scoring along the threadless part, and a partial amount of threads were smashed flat. The new bolt was a HUGE improvement!

Re: Rattle/Vibration Rear

I checked all my bolts and mounting holes and everything is good to go. I still have a thunk when I go from Drive to Reverse and Reverse to Drive. Would bad U-joints cause this issue? Would bad U-Joints also cause my vibrations I hear (but don't feel)? I can't tell if they're coming from the drive shafts or not.

Re: Rattle/Vibration Rear

It could be U-Joints. A family member had a Dodge Ramcharger that was notorious for that shift changing clunk and he would replace the U-Joints and it'd go away. When was the last time they were changed? Might be time for new ones.

Re: Rattle/Vibration Rear

It's fairly easy to remove driveshafts on these, especially the rear one. Just pop out the 4 bolts on the retainers on the rear diff, then it should slide right out of the transfer case. If they feel loose by hand or are tight and feel like something is grinding inside, time to replace them.

I'll definitely look into this. It might just be good to replace them anyway...
