I had a similar issue with my JKRU w/5" lift. Kept hearing a bang/thump after every little bump. Issue turned out to be the rear springs had bowed and were rubbing the rear track bar due to the lift. Was a simple fix using coil spring wedges. Corrected the bow. Hope this helps.

Re: rear suspension noise.

Today I had the whole underneath of the Jeep checked and nothing is amiss, no loose fittings, nothing worn away or bent or catching or rusting , break pads all ok, steering was checked, as was the engine, and the mechanic reported back that the Jeep was in great condition and nothing wrong.
So just what is that mystery noise that appears once in a while and then goes away ?

Not to be an ass, but was this a dealership mechanic?

Re: rear suspension noise.

Wasn't a dealership mechanic but a mechanic who deals with Jeeps and 4x4 and also a former Cherokee owner .

Re: rear suspension noise.

Well that is good. Not saying all dealerships do it, but my issue was completely missed at mine.
Don't see it, don't need to fix it mentality.
Unfortunately, it's back to the drawing board for you.
Good luck.

Nominate Re: rear suspension noise.

Thank you,
Im not a great fan of dealerships, especially when they charge 26.00 for two headlight bulbs , for spare parts I now use ACD Lancashire, which do next day delivery,as for the mystery noise, its a case of waiting for it to re-appear as im sure ive not heard the last of it, it seems others also have a mystery noise so the good hing is im not alone and also its a great help hearing from people like your good self.

Re: rear suspension noise.

No noise for many weeks and then the other day the mystery noise returned for several hours before going again, then re-appeared two days later before going ,ive been pulling up the handbreak in clicks when parking up and for some strange reason this seems to work .

Re: rear suspension noise.

Did you check the parking brake cables which run around the rear axle? Since applying the parking brake seems to solve the noise issue, it could be related to the cable. As soon as you apply some force on the cable, the cable can shift and maybe hit some part of the body.

I've also found that if I hit the tire with my fist, I hear a metal noise that could be the cause of the rattle. I think it's something in the parking brakes that is loose. I keep waiting for my rear brakes to need replacement to look into it.

Cool Re: rear suspension noise.

The noise at first really worried me, but since I joined this group it seems its a common mystery noise amongst us WJ owners, I have in the past had a very loud noise which sounded like I was dragging metal,so straight to the machanic who drove it around and .....the mystery noise had gone, everything underneath was fine,so,now im thinking it is something to do with the wires and brakes , it would be great if one of us could solve this mystery, but thanks to everyone for your replies
