Rear upper ball joint

Hello,

I have a 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited anniversary edition. Has the 4.7l and upcountry suspension. I know it's a known issue for the rear upper balljoint to go bad but I'm about to replace my second one on this vehicle. I have 91k on the jeep and it was replaced at about 40k and then again at about 65k. Once was a dealer part and next an aftermarket. Does anyone know if they make an aftermarket heavy duty one. Just seems like this part gets worn out so easily. I just do daily driving, no off roading, just tow a boat a couple dozen times a year.

Thanks,

Scott

Are you sure that's what's making the noise? A loose shock bolt sounds a lot like a bad rear upper ball joint.
I know Crown Automotive has them...you can find them on Quadratec.com. Maybe if you look into WJ suspension lifts, you'll find a HD off-road kit that has one and then you can order just that part from the mfg of the kit?

Well it's been making the same noise as last time. I just had the rear seals done and the mechanic told me it needed the ball joint as well as new "A" arm bushing and wanted about $900 to replace those part. Naturally you know what I told him! I'll have to get under with pry bar and verify for sure but pretty confident that's it. Last time the parts were very work out and a lot of slop between ball and socket. I never replaced the two side bushings maybe with those being worn it's causing the ball to wear out. Thanks for the information!
