Replace Fuel Pump Is This a good price?

Got a total price of $488.99 total after tax.Charging me $250 for new pump & filter and the rest of price is labor.Trusted mechanic but I still know that even guys you trust gotta make money off you.Just curious if the price for the pump is reasonable? I searched and I have seen prices that are all over the place and I don't know squadoosh about it.

Re: Replace Fuel Pump Is This a good price?

If the filter you're talking about is the filter/pressure regulator mounted on the crossmember in front of the tank that's a pretty good deal because that thing is about $50-$60 in itself. Also have the shop take a look at the 3 plastic fuel lines connected from the tank to the filter/regulator and vent because they deteriorate over time. We had to replace those on our '99 because they started leaking. Hope they're ok because that was $168 for 3 plastic lines.

Re: Replace Fuel Pump Is This a good price?

Are you going to buy the fuel pump separately, or will it be the complete unit with fuel level sensor? There is a small inlet filter mounted to the pump itself, just to prevent larger particles to enter into the pump. The external filter is a filter/pressure regulator in one housing.
I have lowered the tank myself once and its quite some work, especially to put it back in place on your own. I had some strange sounds coming from the tank and finally found the pump/level sensor unit somewhat loose. The unit is suppost to be mounted springloaded, but at mine the moving part to apply the springload was stuck.

Not sure what filter as my estimate just says New Fuel Pump & Filter.I had assumed a new fuel filter but I don't know.

Frango I am the guy that just drops his vehicle off to mechanic and asks him to fix it.I am clueless as to what you are talking about with regards to the fuel pump.I assume my mechanic will be replacing it with whatever is currently in there. Was just hoping maybe a few guys on here had their fuel pump done and paid X amount so I could get an idea.
