Replace thermostat

I am going to replace the thermostat in my 4.7 and I was curious if I can just unhook the hose going to the thermostat and let the coolent run into a bucket or do I have to empty the whole system by removing the pekok on the radiator?

Thanks

Re: Replace thermostat

And don't forget to remove the air bleed plug at the point the upper radiator hose attaches to the engine, otherwise you won't get all air out at the moment of filling the system again.

Re: Replace thermostat

I replaced the thermostat but the heat never gets real hot. It gets warm but not very hot. Heater core?

Also when I set the HVAC system to Bi Level hardly any air comes out the floor. When I select only the floor the flow does increase.

No errors on the HVAC LED screen, cooling system flushed, and thermostat replaced.

Thanks

Re: Replace thermostat

Put a zip lock under the hose connection and it will catch all of the fluid. Just dump it back in when done. My heat works great with a 180 stat.
