Revs but will not move

My son has a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. It has been a great vehicle but all of a sudden when you put it in gear it just revs. We got transmission fluid flushed and filters changed. Ran for about 3 days and started again. Then replaced solenoid ran for 2 days and back to the rev with no movement. They sent me another solenoid thinking maybe it was a bad one and nothing at all happened this time. If anyone could give me some advice on what to try next or if I should start looking for another vehicle. He starts college soon so a good running vehicle is a must.

Re: Revs but will not move

I'd check the solenoids and sensors on the tranny. Could be a bad solenoid, sensor, or wiring

Re: Revs but will not move

You say filters so you are talking about the 5-45RFE transmission (with 4.7 engine)?
Did you try the keydance and check for any fault stored: ignition switch off/run three times and leave in run at the third time. Odometer will show "DONE" or any fault code(s).
Does reverse work?

Re: Revs but will not move

On Wednesday We put in a new solenoid and it ran. Got stuck in high gear for a while then ran great. My son took it to a friends house and I got a call it wouldn't move again. If you keep trying to get it to go or turn the key off then keep trying it will finally move. Gets stuck in high gear for a while then finally shifts and runs good. Check engine light was on code po700 I believe. Check engine light went off today. It is like once it warms up it will move but sometimes takes forever. Not sure what to check next. It is a 5-45RFE transmission (with 4.7 engine) Yes reverse does work.

Re: Revs but will not move

In reverse no solenoids are used, eccept the pressure regulating solenoid for the line pressure. Only a mechanical valve in the valve body is moved to activate both reverse clutches. So when reverse works at least you know that the line pressure is ok and the torque converter works.
The P0700 is a general transmission code and now it needs to be scanned to get the code(s) from the TCM. (Transmission Control Module)
When it gets stuck in high gear, it most probably is in limp mode. The TCM does this to prevent damage to the transmission. It will stay in third gear when in drive or 2nd gear when in manual 1st or 2nd. Switching ignition off/on will reset this mode.
Let us know which code(s) you get from the TCM scan to see where to go from there.
