Re: Running crazy hot!!!

If you have a scanner i would check out the output of the TPS sensor. That one is mostly giving problems as you described.
Regarding the temperature indication, did you do the instrument test? With ignition in off, push the odometer reset button and switch the ignition in on. All indicators should go full scale and return to 0 (also all lights will be lit and the odometer counts 11111111, 2222222 etc.)

Re: Running crazy hot!!!

Just did the gauge test and surprise! The voltage and the temp gauge don't go all the way. Voltage stops just before the red on the high side and temp stops just after 210. Bad gauge cluster?

Re: Running crazy hot!!!

Seems to be something wrong with the respective indicators or eventually with the electronics behind it. Maybe that with a DRBIII scanner a better test of the cluster can be performed to confirm the fault of the cluster.

Nope, no further testing... If it fails the cluster test it needs a cluster.

Well thats not good news. I really don't want to tear apart that dash!

Other than not being able to monitor those gauges and the possibility of something else misreading or not working. Is there any reason I can't run this cluster until I get the new one?
I just don't want to let it sit until I get it replaced.

Re: Running crazy hot!!!

If with a scanner the temperature is ok, and at least you know the cooling system is working properly, you could ofcourse opt for using the jeep until the new (used) cluster is there. You do take a risk however that you don't know if there would be an overheat condition. The odometer distance is saved in the memory of the cluster, so when changing it, you will get the distance from the new unit. I red that some parts of the cluster (at least the indicators) can be changed separately, could be an option. Ask around for this kind of option. Should be cheaper and at least you stay with the original odo distance.

Re: Running crazy hot!!!

Think I'll tear it out and have my father in-law check it out. He is an electrical engineer so maybe he is smart enough to just fix it.
I would probably have a hard time finding a guage that has miles lower than what are actually on the vehicle. I would rather just fix what I have plus thats cheap possibly free.
