Running crazy hot!!!

Ok so after doing a search on this issue I'm kind of lost. So if you haven't seen my other posts I bought an 04 WJ that had been wrecked. After fixing the damage and replacing the radiator and ac condensor this thing runs crazy hot. At first I thought flow or air bubbles but after putting it on an incline and bleeding a lot I'm fairly sure there isn't any air. When running the hose from motor to radiator gets HOT too hot to touch at times, the radiator is hot but the rad cap is cool. I disconnected the temp sensor so the fan is full on all the time (temp sensor not working, another problem I have to figure out).
This thing gets so hot it will stop running and I'm lost. I'm down to doing an oil change in hopes that fresh oil will help then throwing parts at it starting with the thermostat to a 180 then the water pump even though it seems to be flowing. Then a new radiator and cap.
Possibly a partial blockage in the radiator? Maybe get a power flush first?

Also the heater hoses are hot and it blows very hot air so it seems to be flowing there.

Note this has been sitting since early 08 due to the wreck.
Thanks in advance

I don't have a working temp sensor so I don't know but from my mechanic experience I can tell you it's much hotter than it should be. Can't even hold my hand on the top rad hose.

Re: Running crazy hot!!!

206 is pretty effing hot, i wouldnt want to put my hands on that hose.

If it gets so hot it shuts down you have at a MINIMUM a headgasket failure... warped cylinder heads. I have a 3.7l liberty apart at work right now that overheated 1 time and 2 cylinders were misfiring on (1 on each bank). The 3.7 and 4.7 CANNOT take overheating.

I'm wondering if it has had a problem before I got it because it has never run quite right when it's hot since I started driving it. On the bright side I can take the heads off the parts jeep and make sure they are good, put in better cams and just swap them.

I just had heads rebuilt and machined new springs valves and seals. and head gaskets and purged system and she runs 204-206 my cousins i6 runs 210 all day every day even when its 0*
and I use obd port to read sensors so I'm getting ecm data ... one thing I dislike is tranny cooler integrated into radiator ... I need to fix that and go external tranny cooler

With the engine at operating temperature, its normal that you can't put your hand on the upper radiator hose. The coolant temperature is held at around 99 C, so almost boiling point. You should first repair the coolant temp sensor problem, because this temperature signal is used by the PCM as well for the calculation of several output signals, and will affect the fuel injection strategy.
Saying that it runs hot without any concrete value doesn't help a lot.
Does the engine shut off due to the high temperature?

I agree and am actively working on the temp sensor problem. It doesn't shut completely down just starts running like crap. Maybe a seperate issue but it seems to happen when it's hot.

Re: Running crazy hot!!!

As mentioned, the PCM uses- and needs- ECT data to properly run. If its getting THAT hot, the hydraulic fan should also be going full tilt. You will KNOW when this is the case.
