security

I just bought an 04 jeep grand Cherokee freedom edition.I only have the key that was made. When I start up the engine it runs for 5 or 10 seconds and goes dead. The security light inside is flashing orange and has a line through it.What does this mean?

Re: security

Welcome to the garage.
Its probably the SKIS (Sentry Key Imobilizer System) light which is on.
Is this key new? Or the key is faulty, or it has to be programmed by the stealer.
You don´t have an other key to try?

Re: security

Just a heads up, the dealer will charge you 1 hour of labor whether you are getting 1 key, 2 keys, or 2 keys and a remote programmed.

My advice is to get two blank keys from EBAY, they have to be transmitter keys. They should be about $10 each. You can also get the remote FOB as well.

First get them cut at a locksmith and make sure they open the doors and fit the igniton.

Then take the cut keys (at this point they are not programmed to your car) to the dealer and they will program them to your vehicle.

See without programming the keys will open the car, but the car's computer will not let an un-programmed key start the vehicle.
