So what did you do to get rid of the SKIS and have the engine working?

Had the ECU flashed to delete the SKIM. Cost $125. My key fiasco cost $133, would have been cheaper just to get the ECU flashed from the get go.

Did you take it to a locksmith and they did it? Or was the dealer nice enough to do it for you?

Re: Sentry key keeps loosing programming:

No I called out a mobile locksmith with a third party programming software/USB interface.

Had I taken it to a dealer it probably would have been a little cheaper to get the key programmed than the mobile locksmith, but it would have been a little bit of a hassle to tow it into a dealer.

I wish I had known about the skim delete sooner, would have just gone that route from the get go.

Hey, so im not sure if anyone is still subscribed to this forum but i was wondering if you could give me some more info on this skim delete. I just bought a wj with skim issues. So i was wondering who this mobile locksmith is, is it a local "joe smo" or is this a company that i may be able to call out to my place.

Thanks this post really got me excited about my new wj

There are a couple of ways; the older systems from DEI used an add-on module that placed a collar around the key slot on the column, and transmitted the RFID to the SKIM. I had issues with it in my old 2003 GC (purchased in 05 and wrecked in 09) in that the collar around the key would loosen and slip in hot weather, causing the Sentry light to flash and the car to stop.

I recently purchased another 2003 GC Laredo, and had a new alarm system (Viper 5901) installed. Instead of a transponder module AND a carbus adapter module being used, the dealers are now selling a programmable module that somehow bypasses the SKIM. No programming of the SKIM needed! Don't know how, but it works great.

Re: Sentry key keeps loosing programming:

I ve had that happen a couple of times on my 05 crd s. each time the key guys could not figure it out. Had to tow it to the dealer, At one time they told me not to lose my original key because they absolutly needed that key to reprogram. One time the dealer could not figure it out, it was there for 3-4 weeks.
