Exclamation Sever shaking and Electric Issue

Hey, I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 2WD. I'm taking my truck to the shop this weekend. When I slow down/brake my truck starts to shake REALLY bad, it also does this when I try to speed up as well. And also my brake/turn/caution lights do not work anymore. When I try to use them my front turning lights blink really quickly but the lights in the back do not work. Could anybody give me an assessment? Thanks

Re: Sever shaking and Electric Issue

well the blinking fast, and your rear not working means your tail light bulb is out. That's a simple fix.

Your shaking sounds like "deathwobble" It's well known in the offroading world. Your Jeep is getting up there in age, have you replaced any of the steering parts?

If I'm not mistaken, the WJ still had the inverted "Y" steering set up. Not rack and pinion. Your tie rod ends are probably on their way out. That or a control arm bushing that's giving up.

Also moved this post to better serve your purpose.

Re: Sever shaking and Electric Issue

The rear lights could be the light bulbs, but wouldn´t expect them to burn out at the same time. Also wouldn´t expect the small tabs on the sockets, eventhough you could start with this to be sure its ok. When all rear lights stay off, i would look for the ground wire and measure with an Ohm meter the resistance from the light assy to ground. If that is not a very low value, or the wire is broken, or there is corrosion where it is mounted to the ground point.
Is the whole jeep shaking, or only the steering wheel? Shaking during braking could be warped front brake discs, but when its doing it also when accelerating, there should be some play at suspension and/or steering rods.

Just a thought the Tevis calipers are notorious for warping rotors and that is very evident under hard braking....not so sure that would show up on acceleration though.
It's a good idea to replace them with the 2002 and up Akibono's.
