Shift plate cover problem...

I have a few broken plates on the shifters. I read how to take the center console apart but did not see how to fix the cover. Is this a major job? I think from looking at it that I would have to get the selector knobs off somehow before it could slide up and off.

Sorry about not giving the model.. It is a 2000 WJ Grand Cherokee Laredo with 4.7L engine. Thanks
