Hay guys my jeep started making a squirly noise today, but I had the AC on the whole time it was making that noise so I think that it might be the AC, but do you guys know what might have caused it?

I opned the hood, started it and ran the AC, but it didn't make the noise at idle.

HELP!

It could be a multitude of things mate. There's HEAPS of Squirls under the hood that can make a Squirly noise. Sometime they makes the Squirly noise when the Squirls are upset or fighting eachother, but at other times, usually during long cold winters, the Squirls can actually be freezing up, and the eroneous zone capacitors can run under required operating temperature and cause what some more technically minded people would call "Squirly noises". A Squirly noise is never a good sign, for the reasons stated above, and I would strongly suggest you keep a safe distance from the Jeep when the Squirly sounds are coming from it, and definately do not open the hood while Squirling. The Squirls can and WILL bite!
Someone else may like to jump in here, maybe someone with more Squirl experience (they're not common here in Australia), but I reckon consult the yellow Pages and find a Squirl expert.

dylan, it might just be 'worse' with the a/c off. to get the belt on/off there is whats called an idler pulley. maybe the one in you top pic, its blurry so i cant tell. buit anyway, one of them is like on a spring and moves, these are known to wear out.

i would suggest you go to some repair place, like brakes plus, they do belts cheap and all the time, they should be able to show you what is wrong.

if the belt blows off, you cant get too far. so get it checked out.

the dealer may RIP YOU OFF

go to the local repair place. the belt and idler is a very common part. those places do those items all the time. if the belt is all cracked inside, get one of those too!

i can guarantee it will be cheaper than the dealer if its the idler as I suspect.

Rob, the old saying "you can't help those that can't help themselves" comes to mind here.

Dylan, there is absolutely no reason to need to visit a dealer to diagnose this issue on a Jeep like yours. They're not exactly rare. Save some money and head to a normal garage.......

A/C compressor is prolly on its way out.

Its really fun when it siezes and you see smoke from under the hood as the belts burn over the siezed pulley. I would go have a a/c system check done. Its a $1500 job to replace a compressor and the necessary parts that go wtih it.

Avoid dealers at all costs unless you have a warranty. Find a good reputable mechanic that you trust. It takes a while but when you find one you will be happy.

I think I called it the tensioner pulley....whatever pulley it is....sounds like its on its way....OUT. Thjat would be an easy fix for any mechanic

dude...thats your accessories belt....you take that baby off and youll be stranded. Tell your dad you "MAY" need a new ac pulley and possibly a belt and let him take care of it

My dad's worse than I am so I'd rather have a dealer look at it.
