Start problem

New member, have 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Special Edition with 4.0 Engine. Starts thens dies and P1492 trouble code. Any ideas.

Re: Start problem

Code 1492 means battery temp sensor voltage too high. This sensor is under the battery in the tray. With lower temperatures, the battery charging voltage should be higher. If the sensor is wrong (or shorted or disconnected), it could be that the charging voltage is too low and the battery will not charge (properly)
Did you measure the battery voltage? It should be 12.7 V for a fully charged battery with engine off. When its 12.2V the battery charge is already low.
I would first externally charge the battery and see if it starts normally then.

Battery voltage good. Vehicle dies after turning the key to the on position first then to the start. If you put the key in and go straight to start it will run normal.

This looks more as 2 different problems then. The starting problem seems to be the ignition switch.
The P1492 is or the battery temperature sensor or wiring/connector.
