My rear main seal is leaking. Not very bad at all, I've had the jeep about a month or so and haven't done an oil change yet and it's still at the full mark so it's not a big leak.I heard its not really worth replacing the seal unless its really bad or if your doing an overhaul.. So I figured some kind of stop leak would be better than nothing. Any brands I should try? I heard Lucas was good?
The guy at o'reillys said that stop leak helps expand any seals or gaskets causing the liquid to less likely be able to excape or "leak". I dot have the tools nor the proper area to do this kind of job so if I do run across somewhere that can do it for a reasonable price, then I will do so. As for now, ill just keep an eye On The oil level and fill as needed.
No I'm not completely sure but I went out there yesterday and did an oil change and cleaned everything pretty good under there so I can see where the leak comes from.
Thanks
It doesnt "expand" your gaskets and seals. Its goopy crap that clogs the leak itself and is something you'll never get all the way out of your motor. I would add a quart a day before putting that stuff in. I doubt it would even work. Now go back and punch that guy in the parts store in the head! Just kidding but yeah I wouldnt trust anything they say about "off the shelf fixes" if it were that easy there wouldnt be mechanics.
did my rear main about 3 times..........therers no telling if it will leak once youve changed the seal.. mine leaked just a little bit so i kept doin it again with the same results. after that i used a qt of lucaas oil which didnt do anything. so i drained all oil put new highmilage oil in and 1 qt of TX7. no leak been a year and a half. Just every oil chnage dump 1 qt of Tx7. you will be amazed. it also made my knock go away. i have 200000 miles on my wj. runs great never had a problem with engine.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I switched over to high mileage oil, valvoline max life 10w30 and ill check out that tx7. So we'll see how it works.
Thanks again!!
