Stupid jeep

So as you may have known I recently have been having this bearing noise while driving down the road. I had replaced both front wheel bearings and passenger CV axle. Noise went away for two days. It then came back and I had a mechanic friend drive it who said it sounds nasty like a pinion bearing. Well I took it in to another shop to have them listen with a stethoscope and they said there is noise all the way down the front axle but nothing real bad, but both front wheel bearings are shot. So ordered replacements and put them on last night and although there was play in them, I definitely still have the noise. So wondering if I should now try the drivers cv axle or not even bother as its probably in the differential. I also recently changed that fluid which was a little silver, and had marks on the carrier inside there. Other than that, not sure what I should have been looking for inside. Any help would be appreciated as I want to sell this thing, but can't with it sounding like this and not really wanting to stick $1000 into it.

Re: Stupid jeep

Quite strange that the noise went away for 2 days after changing wheel bearings and RH CV axle and then came back again. If the diff was already the problem, why did it go away for 2 days and then returned? Did you also change the diff fluid at the same time you changed the bearings and CV axle?
Also did you use an inferior brand wheel bearing, that they presented problems so soon? Is there any change in noise when you put the T-case in 4x4?
Driveline noises can be a real pain in the a$$ to solve, because the noise can be transferred and can come from something else then you would expect.

Re: Stupid jeep

Sorry forgot to mention its the quadradrive so its always in 4wd. and yes there was silver in the front diff fluid. Its definitely coming from the front. The first time I changed the wheel bearings I had way over tightened them as I did not have a torque wrench then.

Re: Stupid jeep

There is a common misunderstanding that Quadradrive means allways 4x4. Quadradrive is an on demand 4x4 system. (as is Quadra trac)
Quadradrive uses the NV247 T-case, which in normal situations transfers 90 % of the available torque to the rear wheels. (ok, so still 10% to the front).
Only when there becomes a speed difference between the front propeller and rear propeller shafts ( so front and rear wheels), the progressive coupling in the T-case will engage and transfers (a part of) the torque to the front wheels.
Normally if a front axle CV joint is bad, the sound changes when making turns.
When i changed my diff fluid (no quadradrive), i also had some silver colour in the fluid, but no noises. Seems to be normal, however glinsters in the fluid is not. When the diff fluid was changed, the limited slip additive was added as well? When not done, it will also cause some strange noises.

Re: Stupid jeep

Yes limited slip was added but yeah the fluid was pretty silver, but no chunks or pieces of metal, just shavings.
